Some thoughts about Eric by Stuart (Cottage), B.E.T.H.S. pupil 1965-1972, lived in same road for about sixty years.
I was very sorry to hear the sad news about Eric. I will always remember Eric's excellent teaching of Physics and Engineering at Bexley-Erith Technical High School for Boys. Great sense of humour too.
Also remembered are the many lifts to school Eric kindly gave me. These were particularly welcome at 'O' and 'A' level exam times. That red Ford Anglia would be a valuable classic now.
I feel certain that countless other B.E.T.H.S. old boys remember as I do, Eric's inspiring impact on their lives.
Eric was a major presence at B.E.T.H.S. and contributed much to making B.E.T.H.S. the great school I was fortunate to attend.
B.E.T.H.S. were fortunate to employ a dedicated teacher of such great personality and ability who could have achieved much success in many other arenas.
It was Eric's drive and foresight I believe that led to the introduction of the new 'A' level 'Engineering' course at B.E.T.H.S. and construction of the new Engineering laboratory building in 1971. This was of great benefit to me and many others.
Eric's appointment as Deputy Headmaster was a very well deserved acknowledgement.
It is fascinating to read about Eric's war time experiences on the web. I believe very strongly that Eric and his generation provided role models that are second to none.
Those lucky angels can look forward to some great Physics teaching!
Thank you Eric from all of us! You will be remembered always.
